  • Review the background and rationale of the fundamental principle of “respect for persons” in healthcare ethics.
  • Discuss how we might uphold this principle in capacity assessment, and substitute decision-making, in the SHA.
  • Case Discussion - How do we optimize the respect granted to patients facing difficult decisions over the final years of life, especially those experiencing cognitive decline?
